ABOUT THE ARTIST
Since childhood, I have been creating art by any means available. It began with drawing on the walls of my childhood home in Jakarta, until my father recognised this passion and bought me art paper to nurture my impulse to create. This love for art has continued, evolving from walls to canvas and experimenting with various mediums along the way.

Originally from Indonesia, and after spending six years working and studying in Singapore, I was drawn to the unique beauty of Australia, which I now call home. My experiences living in different environments and cultures have inspired my approach to colours, forms, and expression.

In 2022, I was honoured to receive the People’s Choice Award at the Burwood Art Prize for my painting Golden Hour. The work captured the view from my apartment as an intimate reflection on the habitual moments and distinctive character of Burwood, as seen from indoors, bringing comfort and a deeper appreciation of place during lockdown.

Nature and my surroundings have always been a source of inspiration. I take time to notice the birds, wildflowers, sunsets, and the way light dances across walls. I try to capture their wonderful energy and retell it the only way I know how, through painting.

Golden Hour, Acrylic on canvas.

This painting depicts the view from my apartment at lunchtime. While the lockdown is now over, I wanted to depict the habitual experience of the time and elements unique to Burwood that made life bearable. This view to the old terracotta rooftops, part of the historic beginnings of Burwood, is contrast against the spread of food on the table, representing the growing diverse culture that has established itself and enriched Burwood. While the setting is meant to evoke a comforting domestic atmosphere, I hope people will look outside, and ponder the future, as I did in this moment.
